refined handling techniques

Handling techniques are fundamental in husbandry and study procedures. Poor handling techniques not only have a negative impact on the dog, but can also lead to physical problems for the handler caused by carrying an unbalanced weight, or the risk of the dog jumping away from the handler.

Good handling techniques should incorporate securing the dog so that its weight is supported, avoiding the use of scruffing or other rough handling techniques, and keeping the dog close to the handler's body to prevent strain.

The video below demonstrates good practice for carrying dogs to and from the home pen.
